Preparation Days

Just a couple shots to help everyone see some of the preparetory work necessary for my trip to the top of the world. After removing the front and rear seat, fuel tank cover, windshield, front fender, side covers and aluminum tank accent panels, I can finally get down to business.

What still amazes me most about BMW engineering is how well thought out this bike is. The more I'm around the "Freedom Machine" the more respect I have for German engineering. This bike is designed to take a beating and if necessary, to be worked on in the field with the least amount of tools possible.

In these pictures, you can see the degree of disassembly, but what surprises even me, is that the bike can be field dressed to this extent with "two"..................yes, I said (two) tools; (1) #25 torx bit and (2) a 10mm wrench! That's it! To get my GL1800 Goldwing torn down to this point requires a Mac Tool truck parked outside........haaaaaaa.
