Thought I'd try this one more time in hopes of something working. I apologize, but I'm going to have to skip a lot of things that I would like to have shared with you, but continued connection/computer problems is consuming enormous amounts of time that simply isn't available when you consider I had five thousand miles to cover just to get to Prudhoe Bay.

In 1933 the world was watching Mohandas Gandi protest for Indian rights, Adolf Hitler being named dictator of Germany, the chocolate chip cookie being invented, the Lone Ranger debuting on radio and the initial construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. Among all that world activity was a lesser known fact relating to Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. Inspired by local people to celebrate friendship between Canada and the United States, the "Going to the Sun" road was officially opened on this date, July 15, 1933. During the road's dedication ceremonies atop Logan Pass, the superintendent of Glacier N.P. described the road as "The most beautiful piece of mountain road in the world." Anyone having traveled it would be hard pressed to argue.

Entering Glacier National Park from the west entrance, one is greeted by Lake McDonald. The largest lake in Glacier National Park, Lake McDonald is approximately 10 miles long, and over a mile wide. Some 472 feet at it's deepest point, it fills a valley formed by a combination of erosion and glacial activity. Lake McDonald lies at an altitude of 3,153 feet and is on the west side of the Continental Divide. The Going-to-the-Sun Road parallels the lake along its southern shoreline. The surface area of the lake is 6,823 acres. The lake is home to numerous native species of trout and other game fish but due to it's nutrient poor condition it is not considered a prime fishing destination. Grizzly bears, black bear, moose, and mule deer are found anywhere near the lake but are most common on the north shore.

Several people have commented that the bike looks like it's loaded with everything except the "kitchen sink." Well ......... have I got news for them! Anyone who knows how handy I am in a kitchen will instantly see the irony in that one. haaaaaaaaPicture # 5:
You have to be "berry, berry careful when hunting adventure and a good parking spot." Fortunately, I found a good safe one right alongside the road. heee heee

I knew you wouldn't give up, even if Murphy is making using the computer work a challenge. I check every morning to see if you have made a posting. Even when there were no pictures, I was excited to know that you had been online just hours earlier. Prayers and thoughts are with you. Thanks for taking me via the blog. Mama Marsha
Hi, Mac.
Glad to hear that the ride, at least, is going well. I'm sorry, though, to hear of your persistent computer problems.
I can't speak for all of your other friends, but I'd be willing to be patient and wait for your return to get the full travelog. It would be nice, though, if you could do SHORT posts, from time-to-time, of where you are as of certain dates (with perhaps short comments), so that we at least can appreciate where you are.
As before, have fun. This ride is FOR YOU, so most of all, you have to enjoy it. Don't wreck your ride by being concerned about the blog. I'd love to continue to see the extensive commentary (it's been a gas to read), but you need to do what you need to do.
